Electric cars have transformed the industry with their environmental credentials. A study by the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) claims that Toyota’s hybrid-powered vehicle is the greenest car.
The greenest car is the Toyota Prius Prime
Toyota Prius Prime was named the greenest car of 2024 in the GreenerCars ranking. Prius Prime, which has a plug-in hybrid engine; managed to rank first for the third time with 71 green points out of 100. The absence of Tesla in the top 10 drew attention.
The GreenerCars ranking evaluates vehicles based on factors such as fuel and production costs, exhaust emissions and air pollution impacts. According to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, which publishes the rankings, the Prius Prime stands out with its lightweight design and gasoline-electric powertrain.
In second place was the Lexus RZ 300e with 67 points. The Mini Cooper SE EV took third place with the same score, but its projected annual fuel cost was higher at $747. The Nissan Leaf EV and Toyota bZ4X EV rounded out the top five.
