According to a report that came out today, Nikon has stopped developing DSLR cameras. Instead of this, they will only focus on mirrorless models. It means that the D6 model, which went on sale in June of 2020, was the last mirrored camera. Therefore, this decision was not surprising.
Nikon will focus on mirrorless camera development instead of DSLR!
Nikon is closing the doors of its DSLR development centre forever. However, this does not mean that the production of these devices will stop, and they will be withdrawn from the market. On the contrary, the production and sale of popular models such as the D6 and D3500 will continue. But unfortunately, new generations of these cameras will not come.
Nikon has been producing professional cameras since 1948. DSLR cameras have been on the bestseller list for a long time. But the main reason behind this decision is the decrease in sales. We’re not talking about a slight reduction. Nobody wants a DSLR anymore. Instead of this, people buy smartphones or mirrorless cameras.
In addition, the price of mirrorless cameras is not as high as it used to be. Therefore, there is no reason left for people to buy DSLR. In other words, a few years ago, the large slice of the pie represented DSLR and the small slice mirrorless cameras now almost the entire pie represents mirrorless.
That’s why Nikon decided to cease development activities for mirror cameras. However, as we mentioned, there is still a small demand for this side. For this reason, the production of devices released in 2020 will continue for a while.
