Apple has removed an important feature found in AirTags in new updates. You will no longer be able to see the battery level of your AirTags in the Find My application on your devices, and this feature seems to have disappeared completely. It has been confirmed to be missing in the iOS 15.6 and iOS 16 beta versions.
What do AirTag do
AirTags are small devices placed on items such as keychains and backpacks. After you place an item and make the necessary setup, AirTag shows the location of the device you placed with the help of the Apple Find My application. For example, when you lose your wallet, you can see its location or ask it to make a tiny sound, thanks to AirTag.
Although AirTags do not need a lot of energy, their battery capacity is limited. You need to replace the battery after a certain use. The device itself does not have an interface. However, you could see the battery level if you connected your Apple device. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
Why can’t we see the battery level anymore
Before this update, you could see how much charge your AirTag had left on your Apple phones or tablets. There is no battery icon on iOS 15.6 and iOS 16 beta versions. It only sends notifications when your AirTag’s battery level is low. Apple also removed the icon in Find My interfaces in macOS Monterey 12.5 and watchOS 8.7. To top it all off, it edited the contents of a support document for the AirTags, now only a pop-up warning that will appear when your AirTag battery is low and a brief appearance of a red battery indicator in the Find My app.
There was no official statement from Apple on the subject. Users would often receive false notifications to replace their batteries after using their AirTag once. The company may have wanted to prevent this with this move. If there is a permanent feature deletion, we may have to get used to the absence of this feature.
