Yesterday, Apple released the latest version of its operating system, iOS 16.4.1 with bug fixes and significant security improvements. Following this update release, the tech giant has stopped signing iOS 16.3.1 and iPadOS 16.3.1 updates. With the new changes, iPhone and iPad users cannot install these versions of the operating system if they’ve already updated their devices to the latest version. Here are the details…
iOS 16.3.1 is no longer available
The stopped update version was released on February 13 with bug fixes and improvements, including Crash Detection, and security patches. Two weeks ago, Apple released iOS 16.4 update with new features, such as new emojis, Web Push notifications, Voice Isolation for cellular calls, and more. Then, the company announced iOS 16.4.1 patch following the 16.4 updates with minor changes.
If you would like to downgrade your iPhone or iPad to the previous versions, it is not available anymore. You can now update your devices to the latest updates, iOS 16.4.1 and iPadOS 16.4.1, check the latest features, and receive security updates.
However, you should be aware of that Apple will also stop signing these updates with releasing of the iOS 16.5 or newer updates. You can update your iPhone to iOS 16.4.1 by following these steps:
- Go to Settings > Choose General > Select Software Update

- 21 new emoji characters, including animals, hand gestures, and objects, now available in the emoji keyboard
- Notifications for web apps added to the Home Screen
- Voice Isolation for cellular calls prioritizes your voice and blocks out ambient noise around you
- Duplicates album in Photos expands support to detect duplicate photos and videos in an iCloud Shared Photo Library
- VoiceOver support for maps in the Weather app
- Accessibility setting to automatically dim video when flashes of light or strobe effects are detected
- Fixes an issue where Ask to Buy requests from children may fail to appear on the parent’s device
- Addresses issues where Matter-compatible thermostats could become unresponsive when paired to Apple Home
- Crash Detection optimizations on iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models
