Apple has been offering My Photo Stream as a free cloud-based photo backup service since 2011. Despite being free, this feature was not widely embraced by most users due to several limitations it imposed. Now, the company has decided to remove this feature altogether. The end of My Photo Stream
End of the road for My Photo Stream
The discontinuation of the My Photo Stream feature did not come as a huge surprise. Despite being free, the service had limitations on the number of photos you could upload and they were only stored on Apple servers for 30 days, which significantly restricted the usage of this storage service.
Additionally, this service reduced the resolution of the photos when backing up high-quality images. Due to these and similar limitations, this service was not preferred by many users, and now it is being phased out. According to reports, Apple will completely remove the My Photo Stream feature on July 26th.
Apple’s support page announced that new photo uploads to My Photo Stream will cease on June 26th, and the feature will disappear entirely a month later. The company emphasizes that the photos included in this service will be present on at least one of the Apple users’ devices, ensuring that customers will not lose any photos.
Cloud storage services facilitate users’ tasks in every aspect. These services, which make visual and file sharing between devices much more convenient, have gained significant importance, especially in recent times. Apple, it seems, wants to prioritize its other services by removing the less useful storage feature.
With the discontinuation of My Photo Stream, another era comes to an end in cloud storage. What are your thoughts on My Photo Stream and Apple’s cloud services? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
