In recent years, it has become quite popular for popular applications to offer light/dark themes, and some apps even provide different designs based on the theme color. Recently, Microsoft has started testing a new and darker dark theme for Edge.
Darker mode is on the way for Microsoft Edge
The first images of Microsoft Edge’s new dark mode were shared on Twitter. The browser currently offers two general appearances, light and dark, but with the “darker mode,” it aims to adapt better to low-light environments.
The dark theme for Edge was initially tested in 2019. Over time, Microsoft introduced various features that allow users to enable dark mode on the websites they visit and facilitate navigation in low-light environments.
With an update in 2022, the transition between the two views was made easier. Microsoft also introduced the dark theme to the content menus in window mode for a consistent look across the browser.
Now, Microsoft is testing a darker theme in Edge Canary to diversify the appearance further. The image shared on Twitter revealed that the tabs, toolbar, favorites, and sidebar were completely blackened. Additionally, the vertical tabs section will also be draped in black. The screenshots stand out as they were tested with a dark background.
It is expected that Microsoft will offer both the existing dark theme and the new dark theme to users simultaneously. However, it is currently unclear when it will be available for general use.
