The Google Pixel Fold has entered the market as Google’s first foldable smartphone, but it has faced some display problems. Despite these challenges, benchmarking site DXOMARK has determined that the Pixel Fold boasts the best display among smartphones, sharing the top spot with the Honor Magic 5 Pro.
Google Pixel Fold surpasses best display competition, despite early issues
Foldable phones utilize flexible OLED panels with an overlay of “ultra-thin glass” that enables folding. However, the Pixel Fold’s ultra-thin glass has been criticized for its fragility and the limitations of the plastic layer, rendering the device useless in a mere four days.
Contrarily, DXOMARK’s assessment positions the Pixel Fold’s display as the most impressive panel to date. Not only does it surpass other foldable devices, but it also outshines the displays of the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.
In the screen comparison, the Pixel Fold and Honor Magic 5 Pro both scored 151 points, outperforming the iPhone 14 Pro Max (149 points) and the Galaxy S23 Ultra (148 points).
DXOMARK highlighted the Pixel Fold’s exceptional performance in areas such as “color,” “video,” and “light.” However, the panel received relatively lower scores in “gesture” and “touch,” which encompassed issues like screen flickering and reflection.
Even Samsung, the trailblazer in the foldable phone market, failed to secure a position within the top 25 for best phone displays. The company’s latest foldable model, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, ranked 33rd with 133 points.
