High-severity warning issued for multiple vulnerabilities in Android

India’s cybersecurity agency CERT-In has issued a “high severity” warning for multiple vulnerabilities in Android. The vulnerabilities, which could be exploited by hackers, could lead to the theft of sensitive user data. Worse, they affect versions ranging from Android 13 to Android 10.

The warning from India is for various versions, including Android 10, 11, 12, 12L and 13. According to the statement, the flaws are caused by bugs in core Android components such as Framework, Runtime, System, Kernel, Media. Therefore, it affects popular smartphone brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo.

The vulnerabilities, named CVE-2020-29374 to CVE-2023-22666, leave Android devices vulnerable. CERT-In has classified 25 of the 44 flaws as critical. Accordingly, hackers can intercept sensitive information and execute code remotely.

Google has released fixes for these flaws in its August security patch for Android. Users are therefore advised to update their devices as soon as possible. Also, don’t forget to enable automatic update for the security fix.

On the other hand, Google has started hiding the PIN lock with Android 13. This will prevent people around you from seeing your PIN key. You can turn on the advanced PIN privacy key via Settings > Security and Privacy > Device Lock > Gear.
