Volkswagen is experiencing a series of software problems as it tries to make its cars smarter. The company, which wants to use its own software for brands affiliated with the VW Group, has finally partnered with Vivo. The two companies will work on integration between vehicles and mobile devices.
Volkswagen and Vivo announce the establishment of M2 Lab
The car world has been using Google’s Android ecosystem for years. In contrast, companies like Volkswagen are developing their own multimedia interfaces. Cariad, VW’s software division, has announced a new collaboration with Vivo.
According to the press release, the Mobile & Mobility Fusion Joint Innovative Lab (M2 Lab) was established. This brand will work for seamless connectivity between cars and mobile devices and will combine the technologies of the two companies.
Cariad will work closely with Vivo through the new lab. The aim is to control both users’ cars and phones through a single interface.
One of the first projects will be the Gamebase app, which will allow users to play mobile games on the infotainment screen. Another app called Touch&Go will allow users to operate some of the vehicle’s functions from their phone.
The companies aim to develop more solutions for transportation in the coming period. Cariad is crucial to the infotainment experience that has frustrated Volkswagen owners.
Many new models, such as the electric Porsche Macan, were delayed because the software was not good enough. This has led to falling sales. This suggests the company needs help overhauling its approach. We’ll soon see what Vivo’s collaboration will deliver.
