With its latest announcement, Ford has revealed that thousands of cars are experiencing an interesting bug. According to the automotive giant, the doors of some popular models such as the Fiesta and Fusion open unexpectedly while driving. More than 45,000 vehicles have been recalled due to a potential problem with the door latches.

Ford recalled 45,000 vehicles whose doors could fly open while driving

The note sent to users in the US said that 2015 Ford Fiesta, 2016 Ford Fusion and 2016 Lincoln MKZ models were affected. The recall revealed that vehicles in certain states and regions may experience loose door latches.

Ford said it first received reports of a door latch problem on the 2016 Fusion and began investigating the issue in August. The company worked with its supplier to identify a crack or fracture in the door latch. This turned out to be caused by the latch not snapping into place.

Ford received 39 complaints about door latches malfunctioning or doors opening unexpectedly. However, it was reported that there were no accidents or injuries due to this problem. Still, opening a door while driving can pose a great risk to both drivers and pedestrians.

Although 45 thousand vehicles were recalled in the first phase, it is estimated that only 1 percent contain faulty door latches. Ford dealers will examine the codes on the latches of the recalled vehicles to solve the problem. This repair will be free of charge.

This situation in the US is not thought to affect the European market. However, the company stated that it will reach out to vehicle owners via e-mail starting next week.
