Huawei, which allocates a significant budget to automobile software, wants to stand out in infotainment systems. Although it is already in the sector with sub-brands such as Aito, it is reportedly ready to work with some German automakers. Huawei is offering to sell automobile software to Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
Huawei allegedly in talks with Mercedes and Audi for smart EVs
According to recent reports from China, Huawei has offered Mercedes and Audi a stake in its smart car software and hardware companies. This move aims to expand the company’s partnerships beyond Chinese manufacturers as it tries to strengthen in the automotive market.
It was reported that Huawei started negotiations with Mercedes-Benz and offered 3-5 percent shares to the relevant companies. However, Mercedes rejected the offer to use its own software in the automobile segment and protect its brand image.
The details of Huawei’s offer to Audi remain unclear. However, sources have confirmed that both companies are in talks to cooperate on autonomous driving technology. Considering that Audi is more open to partnerships, especially in autonomous driving, the investment deal seems logical.
Huawei wants to both offer its car software to different companies and increase its credibility outside China. Especially partnering with giant manufacturers such as Audi and Mercedes could open the door for Huawei to join the competition in the global market.
Earlier, Huawei CEO Yu Chengdong spoke about the restrictions imposed by the US. He stated that many companies do not want to choose Huawei as their primary partner because of the US.
