North Korea entered the online gambling business!

Attempting to overcome its ongoing financial crisis, North Korea has now ventured into operating online gambling sites. Here are the details.

Under the financial embargo imposed by many countries, including the United States, North Korea is trying various new avenues to alleviate its crisis. One of these includes operating online gambling, which has recently come to light. It remains to be seen how long the North Korean government can sustain this endeavor.

According to intelligence gathered by the South Korean National Intelligence Service, the North Korean government leases online gambling sites for a monthly fee of $5,000 and pays an additional service fee of $3,000. Furthermore, it has been discovered that some of these sites distribute malicious software that infiltrates users’ computers to steal data.

This operation is coordinated by North Korea’s secret services, particularly the Gyeongheung division, responsible for all domestic and international illicit financial activities. It is claimed that the country generates billions of dollars in revenue annually through its online gambling operations. Additionally, these sites attempt to gain a political advantage for the North Korean government by targeting computers of South Korean citizens with viruses.
