Apple shared iOS and iPadOS 17.4 Release Candidate (RC) updates in recent weeks. The new updates, which focus on security and accessibility for iPhones and iPads, are finally available for other Apple devices. In this context, macOS 14.4, watchOS 10.4, visionOS 1.1 and tvOS 17.4 RC versions were released.
What does macOS 14.4 RC bring?
The Release Candidate package is considered the last beta before Apple makes new software generally available. This allows developers to put the software through rigorous testing first. No new features are expected at this stage and the focus is on fixing bugs found in previous betas.
Some of the features coming with macOS Sonoma 14.4 RC include new emoji characters and the ability to read the entire podcast in the Podcast app. Safari, on the other hand, will gain the option to only show web icons in the favorites bar.
As with all beta releases, macOS Sonoma 14.4 RC may contain compatibility and bugs. Apple will include all critical bug fixes found at this stage in the next stable release.
macOS 14 Sonoma compatible Mac devices:
- iMac (2019 and newer)
- iMac Pro (2017 and newer)
- Mac mini (2018 and newer)
- MacBook Air (2018 and newer)
- MacBook Pro (2018 and newer)
- Mac Pro (2019 and newer)
- Mac Studio (2022 and newer)
According to Apple’s previous macOS schedule, macOS Sonoma 14.4 is expected to be publicly available later this week. Users will receive the update in the coming days from System Preferences > Software Update.
