New BMW iX4 Debuts With 296km Range in 10 Minutes

BMW has officially expanded its innovative Neue Klasse electric vehicle lineup with the introduction of the new BMW iX4. Joining the iX3 and i3, this third model in the series brings a sporty, coupe-like SUV silhouette to the German manufacturer’s portfolio. The iX4 is set to begin production at the Debrecen facility in Hungary, with market availability scheduled for March 2027. Engineered with an advanced 800-volt architecture, the vehicle aims to redefine segment standards by supporting up to 400 kW charging power, allowing drivers to gain 296 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes of charging time at compatible stations.
- The BMW iX4 features an 800-volt electrical architecture that enables a 10 to 80 percent charge in 21 minutes.
- The initial 50 xDrive variant delivers 345 kW of power and utilizes a 112.2 kWh battery capacity.
- Production of the new electric SUV will take place at the BMW manufacturing plant in Debrecen, Hungary.
- The performance-oriented M60 xDrive model will join the lineup later with 450 kW of output.

The BMW iX4 50 xDrive Offers Impressive Performance
The entry-level iX4 50 xDrive variant utilizes a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system that produces 345 kW (469 horsepower) and 644 Nm of torque. This configuration allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 96 km/h in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 209 km/h. Beyond raw speed, the vehicle benefits from an aerodynamic design, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.23, which is heavily influenced by its sloped roofline.
Charging Technology Sets New Industry Standards
The most significant technical advancement in the BMW iX4 is its high-speed charging capability. By leveraging 800-volt technology, the vehicle can accept up to 400 kW of DC power. This efficiency ensures that long-distance travel is more practical, as the vehicle adds significant range in a very short duration. Furthermore, the model includes bidirectional charging support, allowing the battery to power external electrical devices.
Interior Cabin Features Panoramic iDrive Technology
Inside the cabin, the iX4 adopts the minimalist yet advanced design language of the Neue Klasse family. The Panoramic iDrive system integrates a wide information display that spans the base of the windshield, complemented by a 17.9-inch central touchscreen. Standard equipment includes a panoramic glass roof and the M Sport package. For highway driving, an optional assistant allows for hands-free operation at speeds up to 137 km/h, provided the driver maintains focus on the road.
The M60 xDrive Variant Enhances Driving Dynamics
For those seeking greater performance, the iX4 M60 xDrive is scheduled for release in late 2027. This version increases total output to 450 kW (612 horsepower) and 875 Nm of torque, resulting in a 0-96 km/h sprint time of just 3.7 seconds. It features performance-focused hardware, including adaptive M suspension and an electronically controlled rear M Sport differential.
With a starting price of $66,200 in the United States, the iX4 positions itself as a competitive option in the premium electric SUV market. While global pricing and specific regional arrival dates remain to be announced, the vehicle signifies BMW’s commitment to balancing high-performance engineering with the practical requirements of modern electric vehicle owners.
