Microsoft released the latest version of the DirectX Agility SDK, bringing new and exciting features to the world of game development. The most notable innovation in Agility SDK 1.613.0 is “Work Graphs,” a sharp API that offers developers the opportunity to fully utilize dedicated GPUs.
Microsoft unveils new DirectX 12 SDK feature Work Graphs
Work Graphs isn’t just an upgraded version of an existing model; it’s a completely new approach that enables entirely new ways of processing 3D graphics in games.
This API provides a more efficient, flexible, and creative development environment, allowing software engineers to instantly create and schedule GPU workloads without depending on the main CPU. Work Graphs can deliver higher performance levels, lower latency times, and greater scalability for various programming tasks related to gaming.
According to Microsoft, this technology could breathe new life into older PC gaming systems, shifting the performance burden to GPUs, which are easier to replace and upgrade.
Agility SDK 1.613.0 also includes additional features like Shader Model 6.8, which offers a more efficient shading programming environment, and GPU Upload Heaps, enhancing the efficiency of the controversial resizable BAR feature in modern GPUs.
Work Graphs support is available in Nvidia (RTX 30, RTX 40) and AMD (RX 7000) GPUs. Do you think Microsoft’s innovations can improve the gaming experience, especially on older hardware systems? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
