No more deleting apps with this Android 15 feature!

Android developer discusses one of the most anticipated new features of Android 15, app archiving. Here's the details.

Android developer Mishaal Rahman discusses one of the most anticipated new features of Android 15, app archiving. So how will this feature differ from deleting apps? Here are the details.

App archiving will allow users to remove apps from their device storage to free up space. At the same time, users will still have access to the app and all their data in the cloud. When an app is archived, its data will be stored and the app will be removed from the device. Only the icon will remain.

To reuse an archived app, simply tap its icon to re-download it from the cloud. All data, entries and progress will be stored in the cloud, so users will be able to pick up where they left off.

In a demo video, Rahman showed how simple the archiving process will be in Android 15. Users will just need to select “Archive” from an app’s information screen. This removes the app from the device and saves its data in the cloud. It is also possible to restore the app later.

This gives you the chance to preserve data, entries and progress without uninstalling apps completely. The app archiving feature seems to be an important innovation to free up storage space on Android devices.

Of course, this feature is currently being tested in the Android 15 developer preview. So some interface elements and functionality may change before the stable release. But the new app archiving option could be a game changer for storage management on Android.
