Mercedes and Chrysler recall over 150,000 vehicles due to safety issues
Stuttgart-based Mercedes announced the recall of 116,020 vehicles due to a weak 48-volt grounding connection under the passenger seat, which could cause cable overheating and potentially lead to fires.
Mercedes noted that this fault has not resulted in any accidents or injuries. Recalled models include 2019-2024 AMG GLE53, AMG GLE63 S, AMG GLS63, GLE350, GLE450, GLE580, GLS450, GLS580, and GLS600.
Dealers will be informed on March 22, and vehicle owners will be notified before May 14. Chrysler has announced the recall of over 38,100 vehicles in the U.S. due to the possibility that driver-side airbags might not deploy, caused by a fault in the steering column control module.
Additionally, the Auburn Hills-based company is recalling around 11,000 spare steering column control modules. Recalled models include Ram, Jeep, and Chrysler models from the years 2023-2024.
Vehicle owners will be informed on May 3, and authorized dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the parts free of charge. Since the beginning of the year, Chrysler has recalled over 663,000, and Mercedes over 281,000 vehicles.
These recalls highlight the importance of safety and quality control standards in the automotive industry. Recalls play a critical role in the safety of both manufacturers and consumers.
