If your home internet connection is constantly slowing down and you’re struggling to boost the signal no matter what you do, perhaps an unexpected item in your home is causing the issue. While microwave ovens, televisions, or game consoles might come to mind first, this time the culprit could be a mirror!
The mirror in your home is disrupting the WiFi signal, slowing down your internet connection
Virgin Media O2 has identified an object in homes that could disrupt WiFi signals and slow down internet speeds. This small yet effective thing is actually quite stylish and a staple in modern homes. Yes, that object is a mirror! Especially large wall mirrors, with their thin metal backing, can reflect and disrupt your WiFi signal.
In a study, 41% of the 2,000 respondents reportedly keep their modems near or behind the television. 12% place the modem on the floor, while 6% tuck it under the bed. Naturally, this can lead to weak signals and slower internet connections.
Virgin Media O2 suggests that the best method for modem placement is to position it where you can see the signal of your modem from the area where you need it most. Gareth Lister, the company’s executive, says, “Broadband internet is an integral part of everyday life. It’s important to be conscious of where you place your modem.
You should also make sure that your modem doesn’t receive direct sunlight, as this can cause it to overheat. Keeping it away from window sills and hot areas is therefore important. Next time your internet connection slows down, don’t forget to check what might be around your modem. Perhaps one of the chicest accessories in your home is sabotaging your WiFi signal!
