Microsoft has made significant investments in cloud-based gaming with Xbox Cloud Gaming, and it has finalized its agreement with Amazon to officially launch the Xbox app for Fire TV. With this development, Amazon Fire TV owners who don’t have a console or PC can now enjoy Xbox games purely through the cloud and with any controller.
The Collaboration Between Amazon Fire TV and Xbox is Complete
The agreement, announced late last month, allows Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members from 25 countries to play games via the cloud on their Fire TV devices. This week, the Xbox app has been made available to Fire TV owners.
According to announcements from both Amazon and Microsoft, the Xbox app is compatible with Fire TV Stick 4K Max and Fire TV Stick 4K devices. This enables users to have a console-like experience without owning a console, PC, or even a smart TV. All you need is a controller and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Here’s how to play games with the Xbox app:
- Download and launch the Xbox app from your Fire TV device.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account and start playing. If you are an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate member, you will have instant access to hundreds of cloud-based games.
- If you don’t have a membership, you can join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate at a low monthly fee or try Fortnite without a membership.
- Connect a wireless controller with Bluetooth. Compatible controllers include the Xbox Wireless Controller, Xbox Adaptive Controller, PlayStation DualSense, or DualShock 4.
