The Circle to Search artificial intelligence feature that Google introduced on Samsung’s Galaxy S24 family earlier this year is now available in the Chrome browser. This feature is available in both ChromeOS and the Chrome browser. However, those who want to use the feature must be in the beta version. Here are the details!
What does the Circle to Search feature with Google Lens do?
Google’s Circle to Search feature is available in ChromeOS 127 and Chrome 128 beta versions, even if you are in beta. The feature is officially called “Search with Google Lens”. Windows or macOS users can use it by selecting “Search with Google Lens” from the three-dot menu in the Chrome browser.
They can then select (or draw) an area on the screen and instantly see results in the side panel. ChromeOS users can achieve the same effect by using the Google Lens icon in the address bar.
Google’s notes for the Chrome 128 beta explain the feature better than we can: “Google Lens in Chrome makes it easy to search for anything you see on the screen. Search within a video you’re watching, a slide in a live stream, or an image on a web page. Google Lens will give you the answer right there in your tab, and you can keep browsing with the new information you find.”
How to use it
Those who want to try Circle to Search should upgrade to ChromeOS 127 or Chrome 128 beta. In these versions, you can follow the steps below to use the feature:
1. Windows/macOS: In the Chrome browser, click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and select “Search with Google Lens”. Then select the area on the screen you want to search.
2. ChromeOS: Click the Google Lens icon in the address bar and select the area you want to search.
This feature lets you search just about anything you see on the screen, such as videos, livestream slides and images on web pages. Google Lens will show search results immediately in your tab, allowing you to continue browsing with new information.
When will it be available to all users?
ChromeOS 127 and Chrome 128 beta versions will be upgraded to the stable channel in the coming weeks. When this happens, the Circle to Search feature will be available for all users.
