As the foldable phone market grows rapidly, Apple plans to make its mark on the sector with the iPhone Fold. The company, which does not want to settle for an ordinary foldable device in a market where competition is fierce, is taking important steps to differentiate itself from its competitors.
Apple will not be dependent on Samsung for iPhone Fold
Apple has rolled up its sleeves to stand out from its competitors with its entry into the foldable phone market. According to recent reports, the company wants to have more control over components that are critical to foldable design, such as ultra-thin glass (UTG) and the back panel.
Samsung Display is currently the main supplier of UTG. For those who don’t know, this glass forms the protective layer on foldable screens. However, Apple thinks that being overly dependent on screen manufacturers will make it difficult for it to distinguish its first foldable product from Samsung and other competitors.
Apple, which has been waiting a long time to enter the foldable phone segment, aims to make a big impact with the iPhone Fold. Having control over key foldable technologies like UTG and the back panel could allow the company to create a different user experience.
It’s not yet clear exactly what technologies Apple is developing for the foldable display. However, given the expected launch date of 2027, the company is expected to address significant issues such as the hinge mark that plagued previous generations of foldable phones.
Apple’s goal is to avoid copying existing foldable designs. We’ll see what the iPhone Fold design will be like in the coming years.
