Will the new Lord of the Rings film be divided into two parts?

Work continues for the new Lord of the Rings films. Screenwriters are correcting an important misunderstanding about the expected films.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Warner Bros. was developing new Lord of the Rings films, produced by Peter Jackson and his team and featuring familiar faces in front of the camera. It was revealed that one of the upcoming projects would be The Hunt for Gollum, set shortly before the main events of The Fellowship of the Ring.

It was rumoured that the highly anticipated new The Lord of the Rings film would be divided into two parts. These claims stemmed from an interview given by Sir Ian McKellen, who gave life to Gandalf. But now an official denial has come on the subject. Here are the details…

In an interview with Empire, Philippa Boyens, one of the screenwriters of the new film, denied the claim that the expected film will be divided into two parts: ‘I can tell you with absolute certainty that these are not two films! That was a real misunderstanding. Because we started conceptually developing two different live-action films.

The screenwriter continued his statement as follows: ‘The first one is The Hunt for Gollum, and the second one is not yet confirmed. We’re going to tell a pretty intense story that takes place after Bilbo’s birthday party and before the Mines of Moria.

In addition, the screenwriter touched on why McKellen might have thought The Hunt for Gollum would be divided into two films. Boyens said, ‘We’re playing with a lot of ideas, but most of them involve Gandalf. Gandalf could come back with two live-action films.’

Boyens also wrote and produced the Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim anime will be released on 13 December.

What are your expectations from the new Lord of the Rings films?
