Following four films, a spin-off series released in 2023, and an approved film centered on the character Eve Macarro, a new project has been announced for the John Wick universe. The series’ unforgettable saga will continue with an anime prequel. Here are the first details of this intriguing project.
Director Confirms the John Wick Anime
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, series director Chad Stahelski confirmed that John Wick will be adapted into an anime. Unlike other projects, this new John Wick anime will not be live-action.
According to Stahelski, the animation will bring a fresh approach to the universe. The team is excited to explore elements of the John Wick world in a more detailed and creative way within the animation format.
The storyline will focus on John Wick’s past, particularly the “impossible task” that led him to retire and seek a peaceful life with his wife. While this pivotal event has been briefly mentioned in the films, it has never been fully explored.
The director shared that animation will allow for a bolder depiction of this backstory, providing the freedom to delve deeper into the narrative and character development.
Although Stahelski hinted at the possibility of a fifth John Wick film, he has not confirmed any concrete plans for it. He did note that, should another feature film be made, it would not follow the same narrative line as the fourth film.
