Apple: This update provides important security fixes
Yesterday, Apple released iOS 18.1, the new software update for iOS 18. With this update, iPhone 15 Pro and higher iPhones, iPad mini, iPad Air M1 and higher, and iPad Pro iPads have Apple Intelligence. With iOS 18.1, these devices gain artificial intelligence support, while devices that do not support artificial intelligence but have iOS 18 installed on them get features such as a revamped photos app and call recording. Apple hasn’t forgotten about users who can’t get iOS 18 or don’t want to upgrade to iOS 18 yet, and is releasing iOS 17.7.1 update to fix bugs and close security vulnerabilities.
With iOS 18.1, Apple is releasing iOS 17.7.1 to fix bugs and security vulnerabilities introduced with iOS 17.7. The company shows a notice on the update screen of the phones about iOS 17.7.1. This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users. The update mainly fixes problems in applications such as Safari, Siri, VoiceOver, Shortcuts and security vulnerabilities in the operating system. For more detailed information, you can find iOS 17.7.1 release notes here.
Apart from security and bug updates, there are no feature updates with this update. Because with the release of iOS 18, all feature updates will now come for iOS 18. According to Apple, not all of the Apple Intelligence apps that come with iOS 18.1 are complete. The company says that all of Apple Intelligence will be included gradually over the course of the year. Here’s how to update your compatible iPhone or iPad to the latest version:
- Open the Settings app on your device.
- Go to the General tab.
- Click on the Software Update tab.
- If new software appears in this section, you are ready to update your phone to the latest version. If not, your phone is already updated to the latest version available.
If your automatic updates are turned on and you have set the setting according to yourself, your phone will automatically perform the software update itself when it is connected to the Wi-Fi network and charging.
