In an important update for Windows Insider users, Microsoft has added a number of AI-powered features to Paint and Notepad.Initially available to members in the Canary and Dev channels, the new features are now available for users in the Beta and Release Preview Channels.
AI update for Paint in Windows 11
The most important feature added to Paint will be Generative Fill, which allows users to select an area and enter the content they want to add as text. This creates several variations of the desired content that integrate into the existing style. However, this feature is currently limited to Windows 11 24H2 and Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ computers.
Another notable feature is Productive Erase, which allows users to remove objects by selecting the area they want to erase. The app fills in the background, making the object appear to be in a different environment.
The Co-Creator feature in Paint is also updated. The improved model creates images faster based on user descriptions and drawings. Microsoft has also opened up the Image Builder tool to more regions, allowing users to create images using natural language prompts.
Notepad, on the other hand, received a performance boost and improvements of up to 55 percent in boot times. The app also now features AI-powered Rewrite, which helps users rephrase and refine the content of their documents.
Productive Fill and Co-Creator are exclusive to Copilot+ PCs, while Productive Delete, Image Creator and Rewrite for Notepad are available on all Windows 11 systems.
