OpenAI has introduced a free course for teachers looking to integrate AI tools into their teaching practices, marking a major step toward democratizing AI knowledge. Here are the details:
A Collaboration Between OpenAI and Common Sense Media
The course, titled ChatGPT Foundations for K-12 Educators, is the result of an unprecedented partnership between OpenAI and Common Sense Media. This initiative represents the first public collaboration between the two organizations.
Designed to be completed in under an hour, the course covers key aspects of AI, including:
- The impact of data privacy.
- The ethical use of technology.
- Fundamental AI concepts.
Leah Belsky, OpenAI’s Vice President and General Manager of Education, shared her thoughts on the initiative:
“We are in the early stages of adopting AI in K-12 education. A joint effort among educators, technologists, and organizations is essential to empower teachers and improve learning outcomes for students.”
Preliminary results from pilot tests conducted across 12 school districts have been encouraging. 98% of participants reported gaining new ideas and strategies applicable to their work.
The course is available for free on the Common Sense Media website to all educators and school districts, with no requirement for a ChatGPT Edu subscription.
