Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi will debut its new Redmi K80 series on November 27th in China. We expect the Pro model of the series to offer major upgrades compared to its predecessors. However, these innovations may come with a higher price tag. So, what is the reason for this price increase? The details are in our news…
What’s behind the Redmi K80 Pro’s price hike?
Xiaomi official Thomas Wang said the model could have a starting price of around CNY 4,000 (around $552). Looking at the numbers, we see a difference of almost $100 compared to the CNY 3,299 (around $455) price of the Redmi K70 Pro launched last year. In fact, the Redmi K80 Pro’s price increase is due to its use of the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
While Snapdragon 8 Elite-based devices are generally priced higher, Wang argues that this price increase is justified by the features the device offers. In particular, features such as the D1 chipset, which offers more efficient energy management, and the best battery performance make the price tag reasonable.
Redmi K80 Pro has raised expectations with its test results as well as its processor power. Reaching record-breaking scores in AnTuTu performance tests, the device will probably make a difference in the segment. It is also stated that Xiaomi’s focus in this series is a flagship that offers superior performance in all areas.
Xiaomi is no longer positioning the Redmi K series side by side with affordable flagships. Instead, the Turbo series will fill the space left by the K series. So we will see the Redmi K80 Pro as a higher segment device. In addition, this series is expected to be offered to the global market under the name Poco F7. We can say that the prices of these models will be higher than the F6 series.
