China unveiled its 6th gen fighter jet concept called “White Emperor” at the Zhuhai Aviation Fair. Developed by state-backed aerospace and defense company AVIC, the advanced technology aircraft is touted as an “integrated air-space fighter” that can move between the atmosphere and space. But let’s start by saying that the real potential of this ambitious concept is only speculative at the moment. Here are the details
“White Emperor”, China’s 6th generation fighter jet concept, aims to be able to fly between space and the atmosphere
The design of the White Emperor is really interesting and impressive in terms of stealth and aerodynamics. The sharp, angular shape of the aircraft is intended to minimize radar signals, making it difficult for the enemy to detect. In particular, the dark, multi-directional canopy in the cockpit design was developed to reduce radar reflections.
The sharp and rounded details on the nose are optimized for low drag at high speeds. In addition, the weapons systems inside the aircraft are located in hidden compartments, reducing both radar detection and aerodynamic resistance.
Aim: To rival the US F-22 and F-35 models
China is designing the White Emperor to compete directly with the current US F-22 Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter models. However, the claim that it is designed for “space operations” is already being questioned by some experts. Although it does not seem technologically possible for these airplanes to go beyond the atmosphere for the time being, we can say that it represents an advanced vision as a concept.
In fact, the appearance of the White Emperor suggests that the US is in direct competition with the Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) program. NGAD is designed not only as a 6th generation fighter jet, but also as a “family of systems” that will provide drone support. Both countries are investing billions of dollars in such projects to gain future air superiority. Projects such as the US’s next-generation B-21 Raider and China’s H-20 bomber are also part of this race.
But do you think such high-tech fighter jets will be decisive in the race for military supremacy? Or are these projects just a show of strength? Please share your views in the comments section below.
