Dead Space creators Glen Schofield, Christopher Stone and Bret Robbins announced that their negotiations with EA Games for the 4th game of the series ended negatively. Started in 2008 and redefining the horror genre, Dead Space series’ return with a new game was shelved due to EA’s doubts about the game’s sales success.
Why was the idea of Dead Space 4 rejected by EA?
Glen Schofield stated in an interview on the Dan Allen Gaming YouTube channel that they presented the Dead Space 4 project to EA, but did not receive a positive response. ‘EA representatives said they were not interested in working on a fourth game, but they appreciated our proposal,’ Schofield said. Schofield stated that EA makes decisions based on economic data and market risks, and that he understood the company’s stance but was disappointed.
One of the reasons for EA’s reluctance to continue this iconic series in the horror genre is seen as the fact that it has become more difficult to take risks in the gaming industry in recent years. Schofield added that they are still hopeful that one day Dead Space 4 will be realised.
In April, it was announced that the producers of the Dead Space remake project had switched to studios such as Criterion, DICE and Ripple Effect. This development reveals that EA’s interest in the Dead Space series has decreased. On the other hand, Dead Space creators said that they have new ideas for the series and that they want to bring the project back to the agenda when a suitable opportunity arises.
