Valve denies the allegations
As CES continues, the latest rumours reveal that AMD will announce three new Ryzen Z2 APUs for handheld consoles. This report claimed that Valve would use its most powerful Z2 chip, the Z2 Extreme, for Steam Deck 2. However, a statement made by Valve employee Pierre-Loup Griffais on BluSky refuted these claims. ‘There will not be a Z2-powered Steam Deck,’ Griffais said, putting an end to the news.
AMD’s new Z2 Extreme chip is based on the Strix Point architecture and Zen 5 cores. While the upcoming Z2 chip is likely to be used in the products of other game console manufacturers such as Asus, it has been revealed that Valve will not follow this trend. Valve taking licensing steps to use Steam OS on other manufacturers’ handheld consoles is considered an indication that it will not release a follow-up product to Steam Deck.
