Samsung has rolled out its first security update of 2025 for last year’s flagship foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. The January 2025 security patch aims to address critical vulnerabilities and enhance device performance.
Which devices are eligible for the update?
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6 models are receiving the update in the United States for both unlocked and carrier-locked variants. The new build numbers are F741USQS2AXLF and F741U1UES2AXLF for the Galaxy Z Flip 6, while the Galaxy Z Fold 6 update carries the build number F956USQS2AXLG.
Samsung’s January update isn’t limited to these two models. The Galaxy S24 series is also among the first devices to receive the patch. Other flagship and mid-range devices are expected to follow in the coming weeks.
The January 2025 security patch addresses 29 vulnerabilities in the Android kernel, with contributions from Google, including five critical-level issues. Additionally, Samsung has resolved 22 vulnerabilities specific to its software and hardware. These include risks such as unauthorized malicious code execution and notification settings manipulation.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 stand as Samsung’s latest offerings in the foldable segment. However, it was reported that Samsung Display’s foldable panel sales fell short of expectations throughout 2024. To broaden its foldable portfolio’s reach, the company plans to launch a more affordable model, the Galaxy Z Flip FE, later this year.
