It seems Sony has shut down Counterplay Games, the developer behind one of the PS5’s launch titles, Godfall. This development was revealed through a post by a Jackalyptic Games employee on LinkedIn. According to the post, the Jackalyptic team had been working on a project with Counterplay Games, but their partnership officially ended at the end of 2024. Here are the details…
Sony pulls the plug on the failed studio!
Counterplay Games made a notable debut in 2020 with Godfall, one of PS5’s first console exclusives. The game launched simultaneously on PC and was later ported to PS4 and Xbox platforms. However, Godfall failed to expand its player base and received mixed reviews from critics, which ultimately led to the studio’s downfall.

Another notable release from the studio was Duelyst, a free-to-play card game launched on PC in 2016. However, Duelyst also reached a limited audience and didn’t contribute significantly to Counterplay Games’ growth.
The LinkedIn post by the Jackalyptic Games employee did not confirm whether Counterplay Games has been completely shut down, but signs of the team dissolving can be seen in the profiles of former developers. The employee praised the professional skills of those they worked with and expressed hopes to collaborate with them again in the future.
The news of the Godfall team breaking up has been a topic of discussion in the gaming community, though there has been no official statement from either side yet.
