Marvel Rivals released its big mid-season update this week, introducing two new characters, a brand new map and some balance tweaks. But the developer of the online shooter has also issued a warning to PC players, asking them to stop using a popular piece of software considered to be “cheating”.
Marvel Rivals bans “Blitz” add-on
Just a few days after NetEase laid off the American developers working on the popular Marvel game, on February 21, the company posted a brief statement on the game’s official website regarding Blitz, a third-party add-on that provides PC players with additional information during gameplay that they would not normally have access to.
Such add-ons are widely used in many PC games, such as League of Legends. However, some players support banning it because they believe it gives PC users an advantage in cross-platform games like Fortnite and Marvel Rivals.
“We have recently observed the use of a third-party plugin known as Blitz,” said Marvel Rivals developer NetEase: “This program interferes with our game process. It provides users with sensitive information such as damage and healing stats. It allows players to selectively ban heroes, predict opponents’ ultimate abilities, and more. This seriously jeopardizes the fairness of our game.”
NetEase also added the following: “We consider this program to be cheating software and will no longer allow its use during gameplay.” The studio behind Marvel Rivals said that players who may have used Blitz in recent days need not worry about penalties or sanctions, but only if those players “refrain from using add-ons like Blitz in future games.”
