Norway-based robotics company 1X introduced Neo Gamma, a humanoid robot designed for the home. The company said Neo Gamma will be a safer and user-friendly option against humanoid robots developed by giant technology companies.
New robot for homes from 1X: Neo Gamma
Neo Gamma, the successor to its predecessor Neo Beta, was developed specifically for domestic testing and use. The robot’s main purpose will be daily household tasks such as making coffee, washing clothes and vacuuming.
Unlike industrial robots, 1X designed Gamma to have a more “humanoid” appearance. It is also covered in a nylon suit to reduce injuries in possible contact with humans.
Gamma came at a time when robots are becoming increasingly important, especially to meet the needs of the aging population. The company said it aims to provide a safer and more approachable option for the home.
The market for home robots has long been a challenging space. To date, few companies have been able to bring both useful and affordable systems into homes. But 1X said Neo Gamma reflects its advances in artificial intelligence and security systems. Accordingly, it will also provide human remote control (teleoperation).
The company said that home robots should have high environmental awareness and avoid causing harm. Neo Gamma’s advanced sensors and control mechanisms are also very important in this regard.
