Qualcomm announced three new portable gaming processors at the Game Developers Conference (GDC): Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, and Snapdragon G3 Gen 3. The new chips will offer higher performance, efficiency, and connectivity options for portable gaming devices.
Snapdragon G series introduced for handheld consoles
The most powerful model of the series, Snapdragon G3 Gen 3, is equipped with Adreno A32 GPU and supports hardware ray tracing. Qualcomm states that this chip also fully supports Unreal Engine 5’s Lumen Global Illumination & Reflections technologies.

Supporting QHD+ resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate, G3 Gen 3 is optimized for premium portable gaming devices. In addition, fast wireless connection will be provided with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and optional 5G support.
Developed for the mid-segment, Snapdragon G2 Gen 2; It has 1 Main Core, 4 Performance and 3 Efficiency cores and is powered by Adreno A22 GPU. Supporting QHD+ resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate, the chip offers Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and optional 5G connectivity options for a low-latency gaming experience.
The entry-level model of the series, Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, focuses on cloud-based gaming with lower power consumption and long battery life. The processor, which includes 2 Performance and 6 Efficiency cores, comes with Adreno A12 GPU.
Offering 120 Hz refresh rate at FHD+ resolution, G1 Gen 2 promises an optimal experience for cloud gaming with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity options. It will be clear in the coming period how the Snapdragon G series will compete with AMD and Intel-based portable gaming devices.
