Meta will begin using public posts, comments, and AI chat histories of Facebook and Instagram users in Europe to train its AI models.
Meta trains its AI with user data
Only data from users aged 18 and over will be evaluated for AI training. Private messages, i.e. one-on-one correspondence with family and friends, are not included in this process. Users will only become part of this system through the content they share publicly.

Meta will inform users about this issue within the scope of European Union regulations and grant them the right to object. The company was forced to temporarily halt AI training processes in Europe in 2024 as a result of an investigation conducted by the Irish data protection authority.
After this step, Meta, which reorganized, is carefully restarting its activities in Europe. According to the statements made, Meta is following a process more in line with EU law this time and states that personal data will not be used in AI training without user consent.
Meta will benefit from European content to develop multimodal AI systems that can understand local and cultural contexts. The company argues that this will make AI more user-focused and more fluent in understanding the context of language.
Users will be able to object to this data use by filling out the objection form directly after receiving the information messages. What do you think about this? You can share your views with us in the comments section below.
