The Mission: Impossible series is back in theaters with its eighth film. Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning broke a new record by making the series’ strongest debut to date in its opening weekend.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning was well-received
The film, which made $77 million in its first weekend in the US, left behind previous installments Dead Reckoning and Fallout, and reached the highest opening gross in Mission: Impossible history.
The film, which was released a week ago in some countries, has already reached $190 million in global box office revenue. Although these figures indicate a very strong start for The Final Reckoning, the picture does not look so bright when you consider the cost of the production.
It is stated that the total budget of the film, including production and promotional expenses, is approaching $400 million. This means that the production needs to reach a revenue of at least $1 billion in order to exit the box office without losing money.
Competition with other major productions, especially those that will be released in the summer months, will directly affect the film’s long-term performance at the box office. In the final film of the series, Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt character tries to stop an out-of-control artificial intelligence that has triggered a global crisis.
As Hunt and his team struggle to uncover the source of this technological entity that poses a threat to humanity, familiar characters from the past and old enemies will also join the story. So what do you think about this production? You can share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
