WhatsApp has introduced an option to determine the quality in which media content will be automatically downloaded, along with the innovation it offers to Android users. The feature, which has been in the testing phase since April, has reached a limited number of users with the beta version numbered 2.25.18.11. The development will be available to a wider audience in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp has introduced a brand new feature for Android
In the new system, the “Automatic download quality” option has been added under the “Storage and data” heading in the “Settings” menu of the application. With this option, users can determine the quality of the media files that will be automatically downloaded.

The two options offered include standard quality and HD quality. When standard quality is selected, a compressed version that takes up less space is downloaded. HD quality preference, on the other hand, allows photos and videos to be downloaded to the device in higher resolution.
Another striking detail in the system is the method WhatsApp follows in media transfer. When the sender sends a content in HD, the application uploads both the standard quality and HD quality versions to its servers at the same time.
This method is due to WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption policy, which prevents it from directly processing media files. Even if the recipient has set the automatic download preference to standard quality, the content is also presented in HD, and the user can manually access the high-resolution version of the same content via the chat screen if they wish.
