Sony has announced its financial results for the 2024 fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. The company’s image sensor revenue reached an all-time high. The smartphone segment continued to shrink.
Sony breaks sensor revenue record
Sony’s Imaging & Sensing Solutions (I&SS) division achieved revenues of $12.4 billion in fiscal 2024. This represents an increase of approximately $1.35 billion compared to the previous year. The division’s operating profit also reached its highest level to date, reaching $1.8 billion.

The increase in sensor revenues was mainly due to high sensor demand from smartphone manufacturers. The depreciation of the Japanese yen against foreign exchange also had a positive impact on the company’s revenues. Sony started the transition to more advanced semiconductor processes ahead of schedule, along with increasing demand in its sensor division.
Smartphone activities continue to decline. The division, operating under the umbrella of Entertainment Technology & Services (ET&S), closed the year with a turnover of $16.6 billion. While there was a limited decline in turnover, operating profit increased to $1.3 billion.
The mobile communications segment generated $1.9 billion in revenue. This figure remained below the previous year’s $2.1 billion. In addition to Xperia phones, Bravia television sales also decreased in terms of both unit and turnover.
On the gaming side, Sony’s Game & Network Services (G&NS) division continued its strong performance. Thanks to the increase in PlayStation Plus subscriptions and software sales, the division announced a turnover of $32.2 billion and an operating profit of $2.9 billion.
