Belkin is ending Wemo smart home support for most of its connected devices. On January 31, 2026, key features like cloud connectivity, app control, and remote access will be shut down. For users with Wemo-based smart homes, that deadline marks a hard stop for many devices.

Most Wemo gadgets rely on the company’s cloud services and app to function. After the cutoff date, these will stop working entirely. This includes smart plugs, switches, and lighting products that can’t run independently of Wemo’s servers.

However, there’s a notable exception: devices that work through Apple HomeKit and use Thread technology. These will continue functioning, as they don’t rely on the Wemo cloud to stay online.

Apple’s new smart home device HomePad delayed!

A handful of Wemo products will maintain functionality past 2026 if configured properly before the deadline. These include:

    • Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way with Thread
    • Mini Smart Plug with Thread
    • Wemo Scene Controller
    • Smart Video Doorbell with HomeKit

Each one runs through the Apple Home app, bypassing the need for the Wemo system entirely.

Users relying on legacy Wemo gear should start migrating now. Any device not tied into HomeKit or Thread will lose all smart features in early 2026. Belkin will offer partial refunds for some devices still under warranty, but older models won’t qualify. That means replacement or recycling is the only option.

The retirement of these devices will impact anyone using Wemo as a central part of their smart home setup, especially those depending on voice assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant. For Apple-focused households, the damage will be smaller, provided devices are set up correctly ahead of time.

Belkin’s move away from cloud-reliant smart tech is a signal: fewer platforms, tighter control, and a shift toward privacy-first systems. If Wemo were your smart home backbone, now’s the time to plan your next move.
