NVIDIA has released the GeForce Game Ready 590.26 driver. The new version adds a feature called “Smooth Motion” to RTX 40-series graphics cards. This technology is a direct response to AMD’s AFMF (Fluid Motion Frames) system, introduced last year.
Nvidia is introducing Smooth Motion technology
Smooth Motion increases frames per second by inserting extra frames between GPU-generated frames. Unlike DLSS Frame Generation, this method does not require additional hardware support or DLSS compatibility.

Smooth Motion is currently only available in preview. Users cannot enable it directly from the NVIDIA Control Panel. It can only be manually activated through the NVIDIA Profile Inspector tool. This means the feature is still in testing. It has been reported that the feature may cause incompatibility issues in some games.
This system, developed by NVIDIA, aims to provide performance gains, particularly in processor-limited scenarios or when FPS is low. However, it doesn’t offer a significant difference in visual quality compared to complex image processing upscaling algorithms like DLSS. However, this feature can provide increased smoothness in older games that don’t support DLSS or on systems with lower hardware power.
The Smooth Motion technology included with the new driver is expected to be released as a stable version in the coming months. Following previous driver issues, NVIDIA has accelerated its software development. This innovation, offered to RTX 40 series users, offers a significant alternative to software-based frame rate boosting methods.
