Microsoft has implemented an age verification system on its Xbox platform. The implementation began under the new Online Safety Act, which came into effect in the UK. Accordingly, users will be required to verify they are over 18 years of age to access social features when logging into their Xbox accounts.
Age Verification System Coming to Xbox
With the app launching in the UK, users cannot send voice or text messages, send game invites, or communicate with users they don’t know without passing the age verification step. This restriction restricts social features to “friends only.”

Unless the age verification process is completed, users can only communicate with people they have previously added. Microsoft states that these restrictions will become mandatory in early 2026, and users who do not verify will not be able to access social features after that date.
It was stated that the age verification system only affects social interactions and does not impose any restrictions on play history, purchase history, in-game achievements, or access to existing content.
Xbox users will not lose any content or rights they have previously acquired due to age verification. Likewise, basic features like playing and purchasing games continue to function even without verification.
Microsoft initially launched this system with users in the UK, but in its statement, it made clear that the implementation will not be limited to that country. The company is reportedly implementing age verification globally to regulate social interaction on the Xbox platform.
In this context, many countries, including Turkey, are expected to adopt this system. Microsoft will expand the age verification system globally due to regional laws and user safety considerations.
