Apple is preparing to turn a new page in artificial intelligence and personal interaction with its revolutionary desktop robot, planned for release in 2027. According to a new report by Bloomberg, citing reliable sources, this device will be Apple’s ambitious response to rivals like Google and OpenAI in the AI race. At the heart of the project is a desktop robot with a 7-inch iPad-like display mounted on a movable arm. Dubbed the Pixar Lamp internally after the famous animated character, this robot’s arm can rotate in all directions and extend approximately 15 cm. This ability allows the device to rotate and position itself in the room toward the speaker, creating a much more natural interaction experience.
Apple is developing an entirely new version of AI for this robot, far more advanced than the current Siri. This new Siri will be able to retain context by remembering past conversations. It will also be able to engage in much more fluid, natural conversations.
According to the report, Apple is testing an animated version of the Finder logo to give this AI a visual personality. One of the most striking features is that the robot will be able to display emotional responses based on conversations. These personalized touches aim to make interactions more human-like and engaging.
The device’s primary goal is to act more like a “person in the room” rather than simply a machine that executes commands. For example, it could join a group of friends’ conversation about dinner plans. This way, it could suggest nearby restaurants or related recipes. The robot will offer practical features alongside advanced AI capabilities. Thanks to Center Stage-like technology, it will be able to actively track people in the room during FaceTime calls.
Users can also control the robot’s screen via a joystick, allowing them to point to different parts of the room during a video call.
The desktop robot isn’t Apple’s only robotics project. The company is also working on a mobile robot equipped with wheels and a large mechanical arm, designed more for manufacturing facilities or retail stores.
