Xiaomi is set to launch its new flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro, in the last week of September 2025. The upcoming series will introduce some of the brand’s biggest camera upgrades in recent years, with photography taking center stage this time around.
Xiaomi 16 series brings major camera improvements
Both models will drop the 32MP f/2.0 front camera that has been used since the Xiaomi 13 lineup. Replacing it is a new 50MP sensor with a wider field of view and autofocus support. The upgraded front camera will also continue to support 4K 60fps video recording.

The rear cameras also see notable improvements. Both the Xiaomi 16 and 16 Pro will feature a 50MP main sensor measuring 1/1.3 inches. The Pro variant, however, will go a step further with an enhanced sensor for better dynamic range, as well as a ToF sensor to improve depth perception in portrait shots. Additionally, Leica’s image processing technology has been further refined.
Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and possible Pro Max model
The entire series will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset. Reports also suggest that a “Pro Max” model could join the lineup. According to an earlier leak from April, the standard Xiaomi 16 may feature a 7,000mAh battery.
