The new Lord of the Rings film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, continues to reunite its original cast. Previous reports indicated that Ian McKellen had returned to the project as Gandalf, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

It was also reported that Viggo Mortensen had been offered the role of Aragorn. Now, a significant new addition has joined them. Ian McKellen, the veteran actor who plays Gandalf, confirmed his casting at a panel and revealed that Frodo is also returning as part of the story. With this information, another member of the original cast has joined the cast of The Hunt for Gollum. Elijah Wood is expected to reprise his role.

Ian McKellen’s statements also revealed the film’s filming schedule. The veteran actor stated that filming will begin in May. Andy Serkis is directing the film. Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens, creators of the original trilogy, are also on board as producers. Walsh and Boyens also wrote the film’s script.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will be released on December 17, 2027. The film takes place as Frodo leaves the Shire and journeys to Rivendell with his fellow Hobbits.
Gandalf realizes that Frodo possesses the long-lost One Ring and fears that Gollum will share this secret with Sauron. Therefore, Gandalf tasks Aragorn with finding Gollum before Sauron does. The film follows Gandalf and Aragorn as they attempt to find Gollum.
