Xiaomi’s new electric SUV, the YU7, has experienced record-breaking demand since its launch. The vehicle received 240,000 orders in the first 18 hours, surprising even Xiaomi itself. This high demand has led to delivery times extending to 56 to 59 weeks.
Lei Jun Recommends Tesla to Users
Long wait times have led to complaints among customers. In response to growing dissatisfaction, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, made an unusual statement. He advised customers looking to quickly purchase an electric car to look at models from other Chinese brands.

Lei Jun listed not only Chinese brands like the Xpeng G7 and Li Auto L8 among his recommendations, but also Tesla, one of its biggest competitors. Regarding the Tesla Model Y, which has attracted attention particularly with its recent campaigns, the Xiaomi CEO said, “The Model Y is a truly great car; you should consider it.”
The Xiaomi YU7’s strong demand is attributed to its stylish design, advanced technologies, and competitive price. Currently sold only in China, the vehicle is offered in three trim levels. The entry-level Standard version carries a price tag of 253,500 yuan (approximately $35,300). This model features a 315-horsepower electric motor. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, the vehicle can charge to 80% in 13 minutes and offers a range of up to 835 kilometers.
The Pro version costs 279,900 yuan (approximately $39,000) and produces a total of 489 horsepower with its dual motors. The top-of-the-line Max version is priced at 329,900 yuan (approximately $46,000).
This version stands out with its 101.7 kWh battery and 681 horsepower. Experts say that if the Xiaomi YU7 reaches the global market, it could be a serious competitor to established brands like Tesla.
