As we approach the final quarter of the year, both Android phone manufacturers and chipset manufacturers are continuing to develop at breakneck speed. It’s been claimed that Qualcomm is preparing to announce a new chipset for the upcoming Snapdragon Summit. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 could also be unveiled at the event. Here are the details.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5: What Will It Offer?
According to a post by Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is working on and may introduce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, model number SM8845, in addition to the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, model number SM8850.

According to leaks, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will neither be a version of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 (SM8735) nor a rebranding of the existing Snapdragon 8s series chipsets. It has been developed as a true Snapdragon 8-series flagship chip from the outset.
The post claimed that the new processor will use the same TSMC N3P manufacturing process as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and will feature Qualcomm’s proprietary Oryon CPU architecture, which supports the SME (Scalable Matrix Extension) instruction set for on-device AI acceleration.
It was also stated that the chipset, which is still in development, is being prioritized by tech giants and could be used in future flagships. However, it was also reported that this generation of the Snapdragon 8 series will not feature a chipset with the model number SM8835, but will consist solely of the SM8850, SM8850s, and SM8845.
Recent reports have suggested that the Redmi K90 could be the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The leaker previously stated that this chip will feature a 2+6 architecture and borrow some features from the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. However, it is said to be slightly weaker than last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. Besides the Redmi K90, the Honor GT 2 and Realme Neo 8 are also claimed to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
