Nintendo’s new console, the Switch 2, has been a resounding success in the US market. From its launch in June to the end of July, it sold 2 million units in the US alone. This figure surpassed the original Switch’s sales during the same period by 75 percent.
A New Record for the Nintendo Switch 2
With this performance, the Switch 2 became the best-selling gaming hardware of both July and the year so far. The console’s global success is similarly strong. Reaching 3.5 million sales in four days, the Switch 2 became the fastest-selling console in Nintendo’s history. Global sales are already estimated to have surpassed 6 million.

According to Circana and Sensor Tower data, the Switch 2 was the only console to achieve hardware market growth in July. Total hardware spending increased by 21 percent year-over-year to $384 million, the strongest growth seen in a July since 2008.
Other consoles experienced declines in sales in July. PlayStation 5 sales fell by 47 percent, while sales of the original Switch fell by 52 percent and Xbox Series sales by 69 percent.
On the gaming front, Donkey Kong Bananza was the best-selling physical game on Nintendo platforms in July, falling to third place overall. Including digital and bundled sales, Mario Kart World leads the pack. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 and Grounded 2 also saw strong sales. Elden Ring: Nightreign, which topped June, fell to 16th place.
Overall, game and content spending increased by a single digit compared to last year. Accessory sales fell by 8 percent, while non-hardware categories saw a slight decline overall. Among the best-selling games of 2025 so far are Monster Hunter Wilds, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and College Football 26.
