Sony is giving 007 First Light the full treatment this week with a dedicated State of Play broadcast and a full mission walkthrough.
007 First Light leads this week’s PlayStation broadcast
The next PlayStation State of Play goes live on Wednesday, September 3 at 11am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm UK. Sony confirmed the entire 30-minute stream will focus solely on 007 First Light, the highly anticipated James Bond game from IO Interactive, creators of the Hitman series.
This marks the most extensive look yet at the studio’s bold new take on Bond.

Gameplay reveal promises stealth, shootouts, and espionage
Sony teased a full playthrough of Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit. The mission includes:
- High-speed car chases
- On-foot stealth infiltration
- Tactical shootouts
- Developer commentary from IO Interactive
The demo will be followed by insights from the team on how they built the game’s espionage mechanics and story systems.
007 First Light kicks off a fresh Bond trilogy
IO Interactive has confirmed that 007 First Light is the first in a planned trilogy centered on an all-original Bond. This version of the character is not based on any actor, film, or Ian Fleming novel. Instead, it’s a full reboot, new face, new origin, new license to thrill.
While Hitman isn’t over, the studio has shifted its full attention to the Bond franchise.
Expect no other reveals during this State of Play
Sony has tempered expectations for anything else. Don’t expect updates on Ghost of Yōtei or any surprise reveals from PlayStation Studios. This stream is entirely dedicated to Bond.
Still, fans are hoping IO Interactive finally confirms what many already suspect: that actor Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin) is voicing the new Bond.
007 First Light is still targeting a 2026 launch
IO Interactive plans to release the game in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. They haven’t announced a final date yet, but this week’s showcase could reveal it.
IO Interactive has also confirmed the trilogy will be built sequentially to manage scope and cost. No reinventing the wheel or the bathroom for every entry.
