Apple is partnering with Google to add an AI-powered search feature to its virtual assistant, Siri. The company tested the new system, dubbed “World Knowledge Answers,” with Google’s Gemini model.

According to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new feature will provide users with summaries of information compiled from the internet. This system will display not only text but also enriched content such as photos, videos, and points of interest. With this move, Apple is directly responding to AI-powered search solutions offered by competitors like OpenAI and Perplexity.

The upcoming Siri update isn’t limited to web searches. Apple plans to allow the assistant to access user data, act on on-screen content, and understand commands more intelligently.
This system consists of three main parts: a planner that interprets commands, a search engine that scans the internet or on-device data, and a component that summarizes and presents information.
Apple and Google have officially signed an agreement to test a Gemini-based AI model for Siri’s summarization capabilities. The company will process on-device data with its own models. However, it is also evaluating Google’s Gemini model, along with Anthropic’s Claude model, for planning functionality.
The release date for the new AI-powered Siri is also becoming clearer. While Apple will announce the iPhone 17 series next week, the new Siri is expected to be available in March 2026 with the iOS 26.4 update.
